The elephant
Elephants are the largest land animals now living. The elephant's gestation period is 22 months, the longest of any land animal. At birth it is common for an elephant calf to weigh 120 kilograms (260 lb). They typically live for 50 to 70 years, but the oldest recorded elephant lived for 82 years. The largest elephant ever recorded was shot in Angola in 1956. This male weighed about 24,000 lb (11,000 kg), with a shoulder height of 3.96 meters (13.0 ft), a meter (yard) taller than the average male African elephant. The smallest elephants, about the size of a calf or a large pig, were a prehistoric species that lived on the island of Crete during the Pleistocene epoch
Where does an elephant live
Elephants live in parts of the Savanna. The Savanna's main regions are Africa, (Zimbabwe,) North and South America, Mid India and parts of Australia. Savannas cover 20% of the globe (not including oceans). The largest amount of Savannah is in Africa. Also it live in Asia especially in India
What the elephant eat
The African Elephant (Loxodonta africana): the largest, most powerful, and yet most gentle land mammal
1. Size: The male African elephant can reach a height of ten feet tall (to its shoulders), and can weigh up to six tons. The female is a bit smaller and can weigh up to four tons.
2. Lifestyle of the African Elephant: elephants live together in families with one of the female elephants as the herd's leader. The male elephants live solitary lives. When an elephant wants to communicate with another elephant, the elephant makes a rumbling noise from its throat. When it gets angry, it makes a loud trumpeting sound.
3. What do Elephants Eat: Elephants are herbivores, and eat grass, foliage, fruit, branches, and twigs. Elephants can eat up to 500 pounds of vegetation in a single day and drink as much as 40 gallons of water at one time.
4. Where do Elephants Live? African elephants live all throughout Africa, south of the Sahara. Their cousins, the Asian elephants, are smaller and live in Asia.
5. How many Elephants are there? The African elephant is an endangered species. In the African country of Kenya, in the last ten years or so, the elephant population has dropped by 80 percent, from 150,000 down to 30,000. This decrease in elephant population is mostly the fault of poachers (people who illegally hunt elephants) who kill the elephants to sell the ivory of their tusks.
6. Miscellany: The elephant uses its big ears to fan itself, and its trunk is used for breathing, smelling, for picking up food, drinking, and even for giving itself a bath -- the elephant can fill its trunk with water and then spray it back on itself. When elephants cannot find water, during the dry season, they will dig in the sandy bed of a dry river to find water.

What the elephant eat
Elephants are herbivores, first of all. They eat only plant matter. They like to eat fruits, such as watermelons, bananas, and apples. They also eat many veggies, like carrots, cabbage, and spinach. They even will eat branches and leaves from wild trees. Lastly, they eat peanuts and other legumes. They have also been seen eating dead carcasses of animals, but that is very, very, rare
Qualities of the elephant
The elephant is set apart from other creatures by its immense size, it's enormous tusks, and above of all, it's prehensile trunk. Rough as the skin of an elephant may appear, the trunk has such fine coordination that it can be used to pick flowers or lift small coins.
