الرسالة: <blockquote data-quote="`¤*«مُحمدْ البادِيْ»*-¤" data-source="post: 1346376" data-attributes="member: 9085">The Agriculture and Fisheries Ministry announced that the meat available in the Sultanate market is fit for human consumption and does not pose any risk on public health.     This came at the statement issued by the Ministry today about the Saudi Food and Drugs Authority (SFDA) about imposing a ban on all cow and cattle chilled, frozen and canned meat, as well as sub-products from the Sultanate due to foot and mouth disease (FMD).     At its statement, the Ministry highlighted the following points:1- Reports of the World Health Organization (WHO) for Animal Health (Office International des Epizooties - OIE) point out that food and mouth disease is one of the endemic diseases in the Arabian Peninsula and Middle East including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).2- The virus has seven genes. While only one gene was recorded in the Sultanate, more than one gene has been recorded in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The disease has been classified in the third list as per the WHO protocol - the diseases that have limited risk on animal.  It is not considered one of the risk sources for the bilateral trade exchange.3- As per the WHO reports for OIE, the disease does not pose on public health for man as no human infections has been registered for almost half a century.4- The situation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is very similar to the Sultanate in terms of having the diseases despite the variance in the type of genes. Therefore, as per recommendations of the World Health Organization for Animal Health (Office International des Epizooties - OIE) regarding the export of cow meat from the countries that have this disease, no ban decision should be imposed.5- The Sultanate, represented by the Agriculture and Fisheries Ministry, protect and maintain its animal wealth through a full integrated system that includes the vet quarantine, the vet hospital, the vet clinics at different governorates and the research and diagnostic centers.
